The standard splash height on machine run tops, Curvform, Postform, 180 degrees, Self-Edge, and Woodbridge tops is 3 ½ inches.   Including the deck surface, the overall height is 5 inches.  If your splash height needs to be taller or shorter than the standard 3 ½ inches, our Tearform and Dunhill tops provide the custom solution.

When measuring the length for your new countertop, exact measurements are important!  Use a tape measure long enough to encompass the entire length of the top in one attempt.  Convert all measurements to inches. You can measure the base cabinets or an existing top to make your job easier. Be sure to allow 1 3/8 inches for overhang on all open ends. Consider using a clip or radius corner on open ends as well. This is a beautiful finishing touch on the top.

On island tops, or bar tops as we call them, you will need to allow a 1 5/8 inch overhang on 27 inch island/bars; a 10 5/8 inch overhang on 36 inch; and a 16 5/8 inch overhang on 42 inch island/bar tops. It is very helpful to us at MKD if you include the cabinet dimensions that exist in a Island/Bar top situation. Many of our internal questions can be answered by consulting these measurements.

A finished end is needed whenever a countertop is exposed in the open, next to an appliance or next to a utility cabinet.  When preparing information for your new countertop, make sure to label where you need end caps or end splashes.   End Caps are used whenever your countertop butts against an open space, a utility cabinet, or an appliance.  End Splashes are used when your countertop butts against a wall.
